UAS (child car seat anchors) on Sentra

Howdy,

I've tried to attach a child car seat to the UAS anchors in the backseat of
my 2001 Sentra.  However, the damn things are really buried.  The only way I
can get them on is to partially remove the bottom part of the backseat, and
then attach the UAS anchors, however the bottom part of the backseat will
not re-latch into place.  I've taken to the Nissan Dealer and they couldn't
get it to work either.  They recommended that I get the local Department of
Transportation to check it out ... I did ... and they couldn't get it to
work either.

Has anybody else had this problem?  I can't be the only one, but I can't
find any reference to this problem anywhere online.  (We're on our second
car seat now, at it doesn't fit either, so I don't suspect the seat).

Thanks!

Consumer Reports occasionally comments on the latch system when they test
new cars.  The comments is usually "difficult".  I think this is another
well intentioned federal mandate that just doesn't work in practice.  If
they make it easy to attach the seat, adults that sit in that spot get
"goosed" by the latch.  If they move it back far enough that an adult can
sit over it in comfort, it's nearly impossible to use.
