Installed a generic Nissan PF Hitch

I finally installed a UHaul hitch to my 1999.5 PF.  Hitch was $139.95
and installation labor was $25.00.  The installation took about 20
minutes but looking at how he did it I don't think I would have been
able to get under there and install it by myself without someone
holding the hitch up.  He had the car lifted and still had a real hard
time loosening the bolts that was mounted to the frame.

Anyway the only thing is the hitch receiver now sticks out about five
inches from the edge of the bumper.  If I hook a ball up it will stick
out another six to eight inches.  The 1999.5 model I think is the same
as the 2000 models with the 5th wheel mounted to the underside.  I was
wondering does the factory hitch do the or does it have a better design
so that the receiver does not protrude from the rear as much?

I have the factory hitch on my '02.  The receiver sticks out quite a
bit.  I don't put the ball on unless I'm ready to tow something.
Otherwise, it's a good way to whack your shin.

I installed a Hidden Hitch receiver on my 2001 myself.  It only sticks out
slightly and I do not leave a ball on it.  Some impatient girl in a new
Escape (temp. plates) tapped me in stopped traffic, but I did not find any
marks on my bumper or the hitch, so maybe the hitch saved my bumper from
getting scratched.  I did put an extra layer of flat black Rustoleum on
the hitch before installing it.

PS: Going the the opposite direction the next day she passed me at high
speed and I was hoping she would get stopped for speeding, no such luck.
