Hi, just bought this car. Has 53,000 miles on it. Noticed that there
was what seemed to me to be a rough idle, took it in to the local
Nissan dealer, they replaced the intake manifold gasket (under
warranty) and didn't do anything else. Prior to having it replaced,
the car stumbled a few times at idle, like it was going to die, but
didn't. Since the repair, no stumbling, but there is still some
vibration at idle that is relatively slight, but annoying. Prior to
this car, I had a Volvo 240DL that also had a 4 cylinder engine, and
never felt this kind of vibration. Is this just how Japanese 4 bangers
feel? Am I being neurotic? Is there anything else that could be the
problem? thanks!!

I had a 1994 Altima that had a constant vibration at idle, you could feel it
in the wheel and in the (manual) gearshift... it annoyed me when I first
got the car, but I got used to it. I've got a 1999 now, and there's very
little vibration, but you can still feel it when you touch the shifter.
From your description, I would say your vibration is normal.
Hope that helps.

A different age and model of car, but I had a nissan micra that done this;
the exhaust was just vibrating off something underneath; a local place who
had fitted the new exhaust a while back checked it, and just pushed it away
and moved a mounting a wee bit.
In saying that, it would seem that it still vibrates (no clanking etc now
though however...), and I've heard this is normal with the lower spec nissan
carms.
