I understand that Nissan & Infinity use a special (proprietary) fluid in
their Transmissions.

Is this true? & where can you buy it other than a dealer?

Thanks

Where did you hear this?  It's not true.  My 96 Auto Maxima recommends
Dexron III or equivalent.  The spec for the manual transmission of the
same vintage is GL-4 rated fluid.

You mean Nissan D-matic? Most folks use Dextron III, even the dealers.

For sure, if the vehicles you are mentioning are using a CVT transmission,
you must use the exact type of fluid. If not, the transmission will be
damaged. The CVT transmission fluid is very expensive. Personaly, since it
is changed very seldom, I would pay the difference, and get it from the
dealer. This way, there is much less of a chance of being out of a
transmission.
