The only thing i can think of is maybe the oil pump broke? And no oil in the

Valves don't push oil to lifters. Lifters are oil operated. Lifters
operate pushrods which open valves in a pushrod engine.
You have an overhead cam in that engine. Your mech thinks you're an
idiot. He's lying to you.
You overheated the engine severely at one time or another.
Sorry about your luck. From what you've said I don't think you have
enough sense to own a vehicle, much less operate one.
BTW, on your keyboard there is a "Caps Lock" key. If you push it and
then make a post, it further makes you look like an idiot.
Go buy a new truck and try maintenance.

This is off topic, but -- assuming you're not just trolling -- typing your
message in all caps is the Internet equivalent of yelling your question at
everybody at a party, spraying them with saliva. By not bothering to type in
lower and upper case, you are showing your disrespect for everyone.
Now, if you are confined to all caps for some reason - that's different.

Yes it's got nothing to do with valves pushing oil the lifters.
Hydraulic tappets that sit directly between overhead cam and valve cap
are LIFTERS. Running with them making noise damages the camshaft,
that noise is the cam impacting the top of the lifter at 1/2 lift
instead of smoothly from the base circle of the cam.
>You overheated the engine severely at one time or another.
More likely he didn't do oil changes often enough and spray bars in
head have clogged up so no oil feed to cam/lifter surface.
Hydraulic tappets sludge up, get a new set fitted, you will need cams
too. Though the mechanic may have done other tests like compression
or looked at the worn cam and found the engine to be a state that
means it's not worth doing further work on.
