Have a 2001 QX4. When in cruise control engine surges to maintain speed. As
if I was pumping the gas pedal. First Japanese vehicle. Had Ford and GM and
cruise was smooth. Is this normal on imports? Thanks for any replies.

It's normal.  It's just downshifting to maintain speed.  It shouldn't happen

Definitely something wrong then.  I'll let NissTech or Steve T take over
from here.  :)
