Hi,

I am thinking to buy a 2000 pathfinder and was wondering what are the
major things I should be very careful about. I know carfax reports,
mechanic check etc but would like to know other details like does it
have timing belt or timing chain and when is it due for change? etc.

Thank you

Best thing to look for IMNSHO is the 3.5 DOHC engine.  Oops, you'll have
to get a 2001 for that.

I had a '98 for 3 days before I got the 2001.  It's a *world* of difference!

There's not much on the road that can outrun it......other than serious
sports cars and police radios.

If it's a 3.3L, it has a belt that needs to be replaced at 100K. If it's
the 3.5, it has a chain. I think the '00 was still the 3.3. Well built
and reliable trucks, but be aware that the 3.3L was underpowered and
worse than most on fuel.

so far my pathinfer 99 with the 3.3 L has had no major problem, in fact no
problem at all. except now, the shocks are a little smooth. i heard the
nissan shocks arent built well. but anyway, mine has 108K did a major work
ie, tune up, change the transmission oil, reseal the hub and change the
thetransger case and deferential oil at around 90K i was charge about 600
dollars to do all the work. but i guess that was part of "regular
maintainmance".

it does suck alot of gas thou. and it is very slow. i havent had a chance to
test drive the newer pathfinder but mine has 170 sissy horses and 200 lbs of
torque. the newer one has 245horses i believe and a lot of torque than mine

Just like everyone else has stated here... get the 3.5 or better engine.
Unless you are offered a great deal and just want reliablity (teenager with
lead foot).

I had to have my front struts replaced at 65k and are prone to fail. Other
than that just check the normal things..

If the 2000 has the engine with the timing belt, find out if it has been
changed. If not, I would not buy it, unless you are prepared to do the
maintenance.

Thank you guys for all your responses. My deal with the seller did not
go through due to price difference. I think I should try to find 2001
instead.
