I just got a new clutch job from my local Nissan dealer (Los Angeles,
CA area) for my 1997 hardbody pickup @ 147K miles. The pickup seems
noisier now, including a slight 'doppler' effect in the cab -- it
sounds as though either the headers or muffler are now louder. Before,
I noticed no disturbance.
Also, is a vibration at times, especially when taking my foot off the
gas at around 30 MPH in second gear; a bit of a vibration for a few
seconds. Can the driveshaft not be adjusted properly?
The thought that I have is that they left off some parts, rubber
dampers or something, causing an increase of noise and vibration.
Are there any ideas as to what the problem(s) / solution(s) may be
before I take it back to the dealer?
Thank you!

Go back to the dealer and discuss your concerns and NOT accuse them of
anything. You should be able to come up with a reasonable solution.
Perhaps the exhaust was old and weak and all the movement of the engine
while changing the clutch has cracked it. No one is to blame, it just
needs further repairs sooner than expected. Same with the drive shaft,
removing it takes the "u"joints beyond their happy place they have lived
for years, shifting the needle bearings around slightly, causing the
driveshaft to vibrate or perhaps a rusty balance weight fell off. Blame
or just the inevitable sooner than later?
When you go back to the dealer you can be part of the solution or the
problem, its your call.

If it is at all like my 98 Pathfinder, there is a piece of flex pipe in the
exhaust that is prone to breaking during the clutch job. Start her up and
check this area first.
Vibration could be a U joint issue, or as was in our case, they failed to
replace the pilot bearing during the job.
I killed them with kindness and they fixed the issue N/C.
Good luck

So I seem to be learning here that when you have a problem with a
dealer, you simply have to kiss their a.ses to get anything done. Is
this the case?
I guess I'll never get anything done.

Ever heard you get more flys with honey than vinegar? That bit of a.s
kissing ( not really, just stated my case politely and with a smile) saved
money, hassles and maintained good relations with the dealership. People
make mistakes, I give them a chance to remedy them before pressing the
issue.
And yes, perhaps you should learn a lesson here and act like an adult Mr

As far as the noise goes, it reminds me of the last time I got a tire
balance & rotation on my 97 truck. On the way home my exhaust was louder
like one of those little Civics you see lowered. I'm thinking "How in the
world did they alter my exhaust with a tire rotation??" Anyway, I
discovered that the air filter housing was left unsecured after one of
their "courtesy inspections" of fluids, filters, etc.

It's best to tell the quick change places to "just change the oil and
leave everything else alone". I've seem them split lots of PCV hoses and
just stick the valve back in (after they tried to sell you a new one
that you probably didn't need).

I avoid the quick oil change places altogether! Although I try to do all
the maintenance I can myself, I don't have a tire balancing machine out in
the garage.

Me too. It's too bad no one takes pride in what they do anymore.
