Just recently my 1998 Nissan Sentra Gxe is making weird whining noises
as I engage the manual transmission out of first gear and accelerate. I
also hear the same noise when I engage it into second gear.  I am very
worried that I may have a huge problem.  I would like to know what it
may be.

Do you hear the same noise if you just let the clutch up in neutral?

To Jim V
No, the sound only happens when I accelerate into first and then into
second.  No noises or high winding sounds in neutral.  I think that the
transmission has never been flushed since the car was made as I bought
it as is used.  Also I think that Dextron transmission fluid was put in
instead of gear oil.   This has only become noticeable since Saturday
(2 days ago)  when I had my oil changed.  I don't want to fork out tons
of cash for a burnt tranny.
