I have a 1995 Mercury Villager, which has a Nissan Quest Engine in it.

I was told by my mechanic this week that the head is cracked (which has
been causing eradic behaviors, over heating fan running in the winter
etc.).

He is going to charge me 1800$ to get it repaired.

What are my other options, I found a use head <A

Will I be able to use this? Should I consider buying a rebuilt engine
or head case and finding someone to put that on cheaply?

Also, if I should get rid of the van, its KBB trade-in value is $2000
ish, I only paid 2000$ for it last year... how should I get rid of it,
I will not lie ... so I will tell the buyer its got a cracked head....
my guess is other than trading for a >$5000 vhecle on a lot Im
basically screwed.

Help/Advice?

I'd get a second opinion. It's rare for a VG30 head to crack and if you DID
get it hot enough to crack the head, the rest of the engine has been
damaged as well.

Like Steve T said, a cracked head suggests other major problems
elsewhere, so look into replacing the whole engine, if not the car.

By the way, the 1995-2001 Mercury Villager IS the 1995-2001 Nissan
Quest, not just the motor. That should expand the market of parts you're
looking for.

Funny thing about that Nissan/Ford project, Nissan built and specced out
the hardware and Ford put its radio and wiring inside, both the Villager
AND Quest. If you have a 1995-2001 Quest, look for Ford radios or radio
replacements, not Nissan.
