200SX Transmission

Hi,

I had a 95 200SX with a 1.6 engine for many years and it gave really good
service. Last winter, I was driving (luckily) close to home and suddenly the
transmission shifted into 1st and stayed there. I checked the fluid and
found the level OK and color and smell were fine. Since I do not have a
heated garage and I am getting a little long in the tooth, I figured that it
was a job for a local transmission shop. The choice of a new transmission
was out since the cost would have been more than the car was worth and a
repair job was quite stiff too. I opted for a reconditioned used
transmission.
That lasted just over a year. I had given the car to my daughter late last
year. She used it for some months and then I got a call from her telling me
that the car was not working right. I went over and checked it out. The
replacement transmission was doing exactly the same thing as before. Fluid
level and color are fine but it won't change out of 1st.
I am going to try to take a look at it when the weather gets a little warmer
here in Canada. I am going to check out the valve body first to see if there
are any damaged or clogged valves (I worked on GM Turbo Hydramatics years
ago and that was a common problem). Does anyone have an idea where I might
look for the problem?

Regards - Pete
