my service engine soon light is on and when i checked the engine oil it
was empty i know i have to put oil in it but i wanna know is it some
thing serious i have nissan 200 sx 1998 model and its a nice car and
is running swiftly uptill now any input is appreciated

It sounds like you have a serious oil leak! There is a good chance that if
the engine ran with no oil, even for a number of seconds, it may be damaged.
Before putting in oil and driving the car around, get the oil leak fixed,
and get the engine checked.

yeah, no oil is pretty serious. so put some, and if its leaking pretty badd,
then it gatta be fix.

Does it leave a puddle when it's sitting? Does it smoke at all? Any
oil in the intake? It could be a dozen things.. How often do you
check the oil level? Was the engine really empty or was oil just not
registering on the dipstick? Any odd engine noises?
Get some engine cleaner and clean the engine - it'll help you find any
leaks if that's the problem.
Drain it to see how much oil was left, replace the filter and refill
with oil and drive it. Check your oil when you gas up and check the
newly clean engine for any obvious oil leaks and go from there.
