Have you confirmed that your distributor is indeed rotating while you crank?

yes and it has power in and out

there is a single black ground wire by itself that plugs on to the
distributor housing by a spade terminal, if this is dirty or fallen off
-no spark.

Given the distributor is grounded to the engine block, that can't cause what
you suggest. In almost ever case, that black "ground wire" goes to a noise
supression condensor on the fender which has zero effect on the car
running.

Really! So you have never seen the distributor housing corroded in the
cylinder head? would it not then NEED its gound? I have repaired two
sentras with this problem!

Not if the bolt holding it in is tight.

Given the electonics are grounded in their own harness, the distributor body
doesn't have to be grounded at all. Try this, you can pull the distributor
OUT of the engine, unplug this "ground" you claim needs to be there and if
you spin the distributor, you get spark. Go look at the wiring diagram if
you don't believe me.

How long have you been working on Nissans? I have been at this for
over twenty years. The original poster ask what could be wrong other
than the obvious. If it isn't important why do you suppose Nissan spends
the money putting one on every car? You should be an engineer! Now let
the original poster try to get advice to fix his car.
