Hi all,

My 99 Altima (106k kms) just failed the yearly safety inspection due to a
bad inner left tie rod end.  I'm just curious what an inner tie rod end
is -- I've always understood the tie rod end was the ball joint at the end
of the tie rod that bolts into the wheel hub, so is the inner end just the
other end of the tie rod where it fits into the rack?  I don't see any leaks
or feel any play so I'm wondering what's wrong that requires replacement.

Yes, that's correct. The inspector apparently thought there was
excessive play.
