Two problems with my 2000 Maxima (automatic):

When i am accellerating (usually uphill), I hear a rattling sound
coming from under the car.  Is this an exhaust problem?

And even more concerning, just recently when i am driving (usually
between 40-60) my accelleration sticks.  It seems like it is trying to
go into the gear but doesnt.  The car seems to start slowing down a
bit until it kicks back in and resumes accelleration.  What the heck
is it?

Thanks for whoever responds.

Sounds like it's pinging, I'll bet your using 87 octane gas, run 93 like the
owners manual says

Check the transmission fluid

The rattling could be one of the exhaust shields.

I agree with checking your transmission fluid.

Good luck.

What you are hearing is what is called detination. It is caused by wrong gas,
spark plug heat, ignition timing, theres alot. It is the sound of the air
fuel mixture igniting in the combustion chaber befor the valves have closed,
coming from excesive engine heat. That is why it only does it at normal
engine temp. But it is mostly normal on all types of motors. Not unless you
have done some kind of a modification to your car dealing with the motor......
If it only makes the noise at normal engine operation temp and not when the
engine is cold it is detionation.

I also agree with checking your trans fluid.
