Help! My Nissan Quest driver side window no longer moves. I brought it to
the dealer and they said the motor, relay, etc. need to be replaced. Their
estimate is $600 on parts plus $750 labor. The window is partly ajar about
1/8 of an inch. I want to open the door panel and see if I can do the
repair myself. How do I remove the door panel on the driver side? I see
one screw on the forward side of the panel and another on the bezel by the
armrest to remove the door/window switch. There's no obvious other latch to
pry the panel out!
Thanks in advance for your help.
BTW, Nissan charged me $50.00 just to tell me that I have to spend $1350 to
have my window motor repaired! Sigh!

Find another dealer.
Most door panels are held on with snaps all around the front, rear and
bottom edges. Possibly a dozen or so. Once these are unsnapped, the
panel lifts up to unhook it from the window edge. The snaps are
unsnapped using a special tool, but if you are careful, you can use a
screwdriver to pop them out. They are plastic, so go slow. If you break
any, replacements can be had at most big auto stores.

Bill, thank you. I will try to remove the panel with care and hopefully I
can figure out how to replace the motor myself.

you might want to check for a bad switch before pulling
the motor, check for power at switch.

The dealer technician said the switch is good. I assumed he tested it with
a tester. Maybe I should check the switch, too. But all other components,
controlled by the switch assembly by the driver side door are activated with
no problem. But I'd check it anyhow.
This afternoon I was able to remove the door panel with care, and I was able
to remove it with no problem. AND I found that the dealer technician who
worked on checking the problem ripped part of padding by the speaker. He
did not remove the speaker first to make that part of the padding totally
free so he can look at the motor. But I guess that's how they are. It's
not their vehicle, and they don't care.

The very same thing recently happened on my 1999 Quest.
The problem was the motor went bad. My local hometown
auto repair shop replaced my motor. The bill was $185,
which also included labor. Sounds to me like you dealer
is taking you for a ride :-(
