My 1986.5 PickUp manual '86 D21-D
calls for engine oil API SF
and AT fluid Dexron

I've purchased Chevron 10-40W oil from CostCo that is API SM
and AT fluid that is M-D3

I'm wondering what difference these make?
Perhaps there is a good reference guide somewhere.

Thank you

All Dexron AT fluids are backwards compatible. 3 will work with 2, and
also with 1 etc.
For the oil, Nissan's normally recommend 10W30 being the thickest oil
to use. I would stick to that. Using 10W40 may accelerate sludge
formation over time, like several oil changes worth.
