Are all the pulleys still properly aligned?
If anything, the compressor must be easier to turn unless it is making a
grinding noise indicating defective bearings
When you replace the belt, what kind of deflection do you leave on the
new belt, e.i. how much do you tension it? What brand of belt are u
using? Is it a v belt or a multi-grove one?
Is there any oil falling on the belt?
Good luck!

I don't hear any grinding. A mechanic once told me that things weren't
aligned well and said he straightened them. Maybe they won't stay
straight...I'll have to look for that.

What type of belt should I be using? I just get the one the parts store
says is the right one. I don't recall if it is a v shaped one or not...

No.
Thanks for the help!

I've never experienced this myself but I understand that the pulleys
can get out of alignment and cause this problem. A new belt will mask
the problem for a while. Good luck. Al
