Hello,

My 2000 xterra will not stay locked. The ATS relay switch under the
left hand side of the driver side dash sounds like it is clicking but
not engaging. Is this a replaceable part, or does the dealer have to
fix it??

I changed the batteries in my remotes and it still does the locking
behavior. Even when I lock it manually, it unlocks after about 15
seconds. The remote will no longer engage the automatic locking
mechanism.

hmmm ATS relay ?

That's a new one on me.

Care to elaborate on what ATS means, that's obviously not an abbreviation
that Nissan uses.

ATS is the automatic theft prevention system that is factory installed
in the XTerra. It controls the automatic door locks, alarm arming, and
remote entry.

Devices such as this often have relay switches to control the manual
locking mechanism. Much like your flasher cube for the turning signal
(which is a hot swappable relay switch), the relays fail after a few
years of usage.
