I found it: remove the heater inlet hose from the connector pipe.

On the GA16DE engine, there's a coolant drain plug for the block
on the front (facing the radiator).
More importantly, there're two smaller air bleed plugs to let
the air out when refilling with coolant. One is on the top
right, back towards the thermostat. The other is below the
distributor.

And if the car has bleed plugs, use them unless you know better. Some
engines will form air blocks and be damaged if the air is not bled
out. Other engines just push it out naturally... but unless you know
how your motor behaves, err on the caution side.

I'd still like to change my coolant. What are the chances these
plugs will break off? (g).

You've got nothing to lose by trying them carefully before you
commit to draining the coolant.
Likewise, I always make sure I can get the manual transmission
filler plug moving before I remove the drain plug.
