I am looking at the Rogue and wonder how durable and failure free an
owner can expect the CVT transmission to be? Is it really a rubber belt?
If so, will it last or will it have to be replaced under 100K miles.

Considering that Nissan only sarted selling the Rogue in the Fall of 2007, I
doubt
you're going to get any answers based on actual experience.
However, you may want to look up the Altima since it also uses the CVT
tranny.
Furthermore, if you think that the CVT "belt" tranny is especially unique to
the Rogue, think again. Many other manufacturers also use it.

If you're concerned about thhe Rogue at all, frankly I don't think it should
be about
the transmission.

No, it's not really a rubber belt. It's made from lots of STEEL
segments with STEEL bands holding them together.

CVT's have been very reliable, just ask NissTech in this group. the
Rouge is built off the sentra platform.

CVT technology has been around for decades, and has been much more reliable
that standard transmission technology. It has just not been economically
viable for mass production, owing to a higher cost of construction, until
the technology had been developed to a more bottom-line friendliness.

It's been used in other Nissan vehicles for several years
and has been used successfully for two years by Chrysler in the
Caliper, Compass, Patriot lines.
