You could order one on line from
http://www.courtesyparts.com/frontier/D40_maintenance.html. According
to this web site the air filters have not changed since 2005 (same
filters work for 2005-2008).
Unless you filter was incredibly dirty, it is not going affect fuel
economy by a measurable amount. Modern fuel injected engines are not
affected by a dirty air filter like old carbureted engines were. A
slightly more restrictive air filter is no different than a partially
closed throttle.A dirty air filter can reduce maximum performance, but
since you are looking for better gas mileage, I assume you are
avoiding wide open throttle situations.

Thanks Ed for saving me the $$! Mine it's that dirty yet.
But let me ask this. When you say, incredibly dirty, what do you mean
exactly? Can't see any sunlight through it? Just trying to get an idea of
what it would look like before replacing it.

I don't know how to tell you how the filter would look when it needs
replacement. In the old days they always said you should be able to
see an illuminated light bulb though the filter element. I have a 2006
Frontier V-6. I just replace mine yearly (which for me is about every
24k miles). I've never pulled it out and thought it was too dirty to
work a little longer, but I have never put the old one back either. On
my farm, the tractors all have filter restriction detectors. In 25
years I've only had them indicate I needed to replace a filter once. I
replace the tractor filters yearly. When I pull those filters out,
they look a lot worse than any automotive filter I have ever changed,
yet the one time when the filter restriction light was on, it was the
back-up filter that need replacement (all my tractors have a main
filter and a back-up filter - in theory the back-ups rarely need
replacement, but they will eventually plug up, after the main filter
has been replaced many times).
My advice is to not exceed the Nissan Maintenance Schedule - it says
to replace the engine air filter every 30k miles or 24 months. This
applies to normal service (schedule 2) and severe service (schedule
1). However, the Nissan "Premium Care Plan" recommends an air filter
replacement every 15K miles. Nissan recommends the "Premium Care Plan"
"for owners who want the ultimate in preventative maintenance." I
suppose if you want the "ultimate in preventative maintenance" you
should replace the engine air filter every 15k miles. Personally, I
like the one year schedule I am on, easier to remember and I am not
likely to exceed the severe service schedule of 30k miles doing a
yearly change.
Nissan recommends replacing the cabin air filter more often than the
engine air filter. I've replaced those twice now and they don't look
near as dirty as shown in the Nissan guide (see
http://www.nissanusa.com/pdf/owning/vehicle_care/2007_Nissan_Service_Maintenance
_Guide.pdf ,
page 18). On the other hand, I don't think they work worth a d&*n
judging by the amount of dust in my truck and the fact that I always
have an allergy attack when I drive through a particular area (a swamp
with some bush that drives me nuts).
