So I've looked around this usenet and looked for a solution to my
problem, but couldn't find one... and yes it's yet another startup
issue.
I have a 1992 Sentra. For a few months it has had issues starting when
the engine is warm. In order to start it I had to hold down the gas
and crank it for some time. Now when I am driving the car will
randomly die. Sometimes I get around it by pushing on the gas, but
obviously I can't do this at stop signs. xP I believe the two issues
are related, it seems the engine doesn't get enough fuel so it almost
dies but if I apply too much gas it will get too much, at least that's
how it seems. Though I think it is mostly related to heat, on cool
days it will run better. But of course there's an exception... it
seems to go through "phases" where for two days it will run fine
followed by a day or two of smooth driving.
I know this description may not be very good, but I hope someone has
an idea of what's going on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

assuming you have given proper maintenance to the sentra over
the years (ie, plug wires, spark plugs, etc), can you adjust the
idle upwards, to see if this is an issue? a hand-held tach would
help.

You might try checking fuel pressure if you have a suitable fuel
pressure gauge. Also, how long since the fuel filter was changed.
Does the fuel pump sound noisier than usual? Good luck. Al

Sounds like a crank position sensor issue... i.e. distributor.
