I have a 95 nissan with the 2400 4 cly engine. I got the truck and the
guides on the timing chain were shot, I replaced the timing set,
replaced the oil pump because of all the crap in the pan. I used carb
cleaner in all the oil passages I could get to to clean them out, got
everything back together and the truck will start and run fine but the
oil light will come and go, no certain rpm or speed just comes and
goes, it also has valve clatter even if the oil light is not on. I
pulled the rocker assemblies and cleaned everything. All looks good
but still get a frequent oil light and valve clatter. I also ran the
engine with motor flush twice (its on its 3rd oil change with only 20
miles)  Any ideas?

how many miles on this engine?  sounds like oil is not getting to
the rockers.

Thanks for the reply. 141200. I put carb cleaner down the oil holes in
the head, soaked the rocker shafts overnight, cleaned the oil holes in
the rockers. At this point i'm kinda lost. I have changed several of
these and never had a problem, at first i thought maybe I didn't get
the pump primed good, I took it back off and sat it in a pan of oil
and ran it for a minute or more after I poured it full. Also i'm
running castrol 10w30

did you use new oil passage seals when reinstalling the timing cover after
replacing the chain?

Yes.

is/ are there and dents in the oil pan that will impede the flow of oil into
the pump from the pick up.

Thank you for the reply. Oil pan is straight

Ok...made a little progress. I figured since a new oil sensor only
cost 6 bucks, it was worth a try. Took care of the oil light but I
still have the noisy rockers, I don't mean a little noisy either :) I
pulled the rockers back off for the second time and had more junk in
the oil passages. I'm thinking i'll have to keep doing this untill all
the garbage is gone. Used flush on it twice now, 2 times on cleaning
the oil passages on the rockers. I just got the truck a short time ago
because the timing chain needed replacing so I don't really know how
long it was drove eating up the guides, I do know it did'nt have much
of the guides left. The lady that had it will drive vehicles till they
die and then they set, I bought it as a fixer upper for my 16 year
old. I only got $650 in it at this point (truck and new parts) so
still in good shape cause I figured on a thousand. Keep the
suggestions coming because i'm not that familiar with Nissans and need
all the help I can get
