2007 Altima - Partial Failure of Rear Window Defroster

The rear window defroster of my 2007 Altima only works for about the
bottom 10 grid wires. See photo at

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo201/kadaifi/PICT0020.jpg

For all of the wires above grid number 10, there appears to be missing
sections of conductive grid wires. The missing sections are about 1/2"
to 1" in length and are located at the center of the window.

I plan to take the car to the dealer as it is under warranty (less than
36,000 miles). What kind of repair will the dealer make? Does the entire
window have to be replaced?

yes ,
they will have to replace the window
as the defroster element is part of the
the glass .

If it's abrasion damage from something being rubbed over the elements
they won't pay or replace under warranty.

How would I now if it is abrasion damage? I just bought the car from a
rental car agency and have no idea what happened before I had it.

Do you see any broken elements. Does your car also have the radio
antenna in the back window? They may be the top elements that are not
the defroster and therefore not heating the glass..

The radio antenna elements at the top of the glass are not broken and I
know that they don't heat the glass. It is the 10 elements of the
defroster below the antenna that are broken.

They are broken, or just not work? If you can see breaks in the
elements, they can be fixed by you. Go to an auto store and get a repair
kit. You paint a the special conductive compound on the broken parts
thereby making the elements whole again.

It is hard to describe: I can see the lines all across the class. When I
run my finger over the lines, I can feel that there is a break in the
conductive material of 1/2 to 1 inch. So I would think that painting the
lines over those parts that are "broken" should fixit.
