Well, I had the same exact problem. I had a small repair shop move in
next to my shop and ask the guy if he could check the codes on my car
for problems. He didn't have the cables for this one, but he said let
me take a look. About 5 minutes later, he ask me if I could smell
something. I said no. Can't you smell that sulfur type smell. He said
your problem is that your catalytic converter is stopped up. Well, I
get the converter removed and what do ya know, it starts a 100 times
better. Problem solved. Thought I would let you folks know.

You just removed the cat? You didn't replace it with a new one?

Good luck when taking the car in for the annual safety and emissions
inspection.

The original problem was the car, when warm, was very hard to start,
once started, ran fine. If the car was cold it would start just fine.
Had the Cat converter removed and it starts much, much better. It was
stopped up.
