I've got an 02 Pathfinder w/ 98K miles & need to replace front & rear
shocks.  Can anyone recommend one brand over another.  The Ranchos are
pretty expensive on the net while the Monroe's are the cheapest.  KYB has
shocks in between.  And dealer replacements cost 50% more than the Ranchos.

Thanks.

Monroes are cheap for a reason. Serviceable, but weak. KYB's have
always left me disappointed - no improvement over stock. MHO, YMMV.

I sort of take the other spin on the KYB's - same as stock for half
the price.  Some things, like '02 Pathfinders (I know, I have one),
don't need anything spectacularly better.

I can agree with that as long as you are talking the base shock. If
there was an upgraded shock (e.g. "sport" or "heavy duty") on the
vehicle originally, the KYB will not be as good.

Thanks for the advice.  Am going w/ the KYBs which I got from RockAuto
for half the price of the OEMs offered by CourtesyNissan.

I can attest to Rancho standing behind there lifetime  warrantee.Had
150K 14 years  on mine when They needed replacement.Couldn't find
reciept but Sears had it,Rancho replaced them no charge.

Why not go with OEM parts, they lasted you almost 100k miles.
Seems like a no brainer to me.

BTW your pathpuppie has struts on the front and shocks on the rear.

You might try either OMEs (old man emu) or one of the established brands
like Gabrials, S and w, or Bilsteins.

I had OMEs on my 4Runner and after 150km thought I'd replace them, even
though they were working OK - I just wanted best performance as I was
doing 100km+ a day on dirt roads.

So fitted Ranchos all round (5000 series)  - bloody things were not as
good as the OMEs that I took off!  Rancho seem to spend lots on
advertising, but not much on development or making a quality product.
Were just a waste of money but left them on for 50ks then put the OMEs
back on as the performance of the Ranchos had deteriorated to the point
of being dangerous.
