Flashing Dash.... Dead

Greetings,

After accidently leaving the lights on in my car, I woke up to a dead
battery. I asked a neighbor and proceeded to get a jump. After about 15
minutes, still no go on a running car. So I looked and happened to
notice that he had the cables on wrong. The positive for my car was
being used as a ground. Oh, and the battery was smoking. So I asked him
about t his and he said "oops" and switched them around. The car
started immediately.

Well, I was all happy until I got about a mile from home. The whole
dash went crazy. All the lights in the dash started flickering on and
off. As I was pulling into the parking lot of a place to stop the car,
it died. So dead in fact that I had to manually unlock the doors.

Any idea what I blew? Any chance I could change the battery and it
would be okay? Any advice, snickering, and the likes is welcome.

Best Wishes,
Stephanie

Put it in and see what happens, alternator may be a problem only replacing
the battery and checking it out will tell.
