I have a 89 Chevy wagon with a 307 Olds engine. It has 60k oringinal miles
and was put out of service years ago..I still have this. The car/body &
inside is in great shape. I was told that their was a problem with these
motors That just replacing the oil pump would not fix it.
It never rattled.

What is the real story on this engine? Do we try a oil pump? Is it cam or
other bearings? YES,I did verify NO OIL. No I didn't try an oil change, such
as plugged oil filter, if that was a possiblity...

Thanks in advance..

I don't see what the actual root problem is here, no/low oil pressure, oil
lite on, lifters noisey?

Um, I hear chevy makes good engines. What goofball put an olds engine in
this?

Sorry for giving you a hard time, but if you've got an engine with no
oil, it's prolly easier to put a chevy in it than fix what's broke.

No hard time :)
I'm an old pro Chevy guy..I was shocked when we picked this car up to find
an Olds..I did, say several things :)

It's just with the wiring harness/computer/etc I am unaware about putting in
one of my spare Chevys.
Not that I like 305s, but I have several in good shape in storage. You might
very well be right in that it might be adapt one of these to it?

HISTORICALLY an engine design might have some, "flaws" and was wondering if
anyone knew of one on this engine. I had a mecanic(that sometimes like to
streach the truth) say about this engine and the oiling..I would believe him
more without his long tail of bs if he just said..cam bearing spun...

I confirmed that no oil is coming up to the lifter, as well as the port
where the pressure is checked. I fear a cam bearing has spun? HE claimed an
oil pump would not fix the problem. I just didn't want to rebuild this
307...NEVER DID LIKE the oil they said to use. I think it was 5w30. In TEXAS
it's too THIN! 60k miles and it went bellie up

Thanks
