My 1999 olds alero will not start.  about 8 months ago i ran out of gas and
after putting gas in the car still would not start, I had the car towed home
and we added more gas and replaced the relay switch and it still would not
start. A few days went by and i had the car towed to a shop.  They called and
said when they unloaded the car it started fine.  The car has ran fine since
and I keep fuel in it. But it willnot strt now and I was wondering if their
is a switch orsomething that I can try, already tried the relay again and it
is fine. Also, it has gas in it. Please help I searched many data bases and
noone seems to know.

There is no fuel pump reset switch, does the dash security lite stay on?
Does it crank but not start, you are not giving sufficient to get help here.

Yes it cranks but does not start. The security light is not on--I have had
that problem before. And my car is actually 2000 not 1999 if that matters.
would adding more gas make a difference? Thanks in advance Shep.

Some one has to check for fuel pressure and spark to determine the source of
the problem.

That sounds like it could be a clogged fuel filter. It gets clogged,
won't start, sits for a while and the clog goes back in the tank or
down the line and it comes back when the car is started..

You need to check that filter, plus an accumulation of water in the
system.

I am having the same problem with a 2002 Alero.  I have replaced the fuel
pump and filter.  It has power, should I check for spark?  I have a valve
stem on the fuel lines next to the injectors, which will not spit fuel
out.

I pulled the spark plug and hooked it to the plug wire and grounded it to
the engine but could not get fire, so I wiggled the key and got fire and
fuel, so I pulled the ignition switch which seems to be the problem (it
cranked after I pulled the ignition switch and reinstalled it). I am not
sure if this is the problem but the car is running.  I am going to get a
new ignition switch tomorrow.
