Fuel Pump Electrical Circuit
When the ignition key is first turned ON, without the engine running, the
PCM energizes the fuel pump relay for a calibrated time (approximately 2
seconds). This builds up fuel pressure quickly. Whenever the engine is not
started within two seconds, the PCM shuts OFF the fuel pump and waits until
ignition reference pulses are present. As soon as the engine is cranked, the
PCM energizes the fuel pump relay which powers the fuel pump. An inoperative
fuel pump relay or an inoperative fuel pump would cause a no start
condition. A fuel pump which does not provide enough pressure can result in
poor performance.
Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor activity (7X reference)--The CKP sensor
generates a signal to the ICM which results in a reference pulse, square
wave signal, being sent to the PCM. The PCM uses this signal to calculate
crankshaft position, engine speed and injector pulse width. The engine will
not start or run if this circuit is open or grounded.

I UNDERSTAND "SILVER SURFER'S" EXPLANATION BUT HERE'S ANOTHER THING.IF IT
DOES START RIGHT AWAY IT RUNS GREAT UNTIL THE NEXT EPISODE,THEN WHEN IT
WON'T START,I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY ON FOR ABOUT 1/2HR.TILL
THE PCM OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE RESETS AND SECURITY LIGHT STOPS
BLINKING.AFTER 1/2HR. SHE RESTARTS AND RUNS GREAT FOR AWILE.ALSO THE
DEALERSHIP REPLACED FOR THIS PROBLEM-INGNITION-IGN.SWITCH-COILS-PCM AND
THE CLUSTER,THEY GAVE UP!! SO MUCH FOR PROFESSIONALISM-NOW TO ME THIS
SHOULD HAVE CHALLENGE THEM.ANYONE THAT CAN SOLVE THIS I'LL BUY STOMPED IN

My guess is that there is something wrong with your Class 2 serial data
wiring.
The description below is for a '98. Don't know if it's the same as a '97 or
not.

Vehicle Control Module Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) communicates with the instrument cluster
using serial data over the UART serial data bus, CKT 800. When the
instrument cluster determines a Pass Theft condition, the instrument cluster
sends a coded password to the PCM. When the instrument cluster receives the
correct password, the PCM enables the fuel injection system in order to
allow the vehicle to operate normally. The PCM may allow the vehicle to
start and stall quickly during a failed theft condition.
The PCM may enter the tamper mode under the following 2 conditions:
A bad timing cycle
An incorrect password
If the instrument cluster does not send a password within a preset time
window, the PCM will enter the Short Tamper Mode. During the Short Tamper
Mode the PCM will not allow the car to operate for 4 seconds. If the
password is incorrect, the PCM will enter the Long Tamper Mode. During the
Long Tamper Mode the following actions will occur:
The indicator will flash.
The fuel injectors will shut off for approximately 10 minutes.
The vehicle may start, but the engine will quickly stall due to fuel
cut-off.
The PCM will become fail-enabled under the following conditions:
If there is a open in the serial data wire between the instrument cluster
and the PCM
If the vehicle is running
The following actions will then occur:
The THEFT SYSTEM indicator will illuminate continuously.
The PCM will become fail-enabled for future ignition cycles.
If a failure in the serial data wire occurs under the following conditions,
the engine will not start:
The engine is not running.
The PCM is not fail-enabled.

I,LL CHECK THIS OUT,THIS WILL HELP A GREAT DEAL IN MY QUEST TO ELIMINATE
THIS PROBLEM.ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS-I'M STILL CURIOUS IF THIS DON'T
WORK,HOW CAN I BY PASS OR FOOL THE PCM?? THANKS-"SILVER SURFER"
