Have a 2000 Alero.  Went to put the cruise on the other day and the light
lights on the steering wheel at the switch as long as the switch is pushed
in.  When I release the switch the light goes out.  Needless to say, the
cruise doesn't work.  Checked all the fuses, and they all look good.  Any
suggestions as what to check next?

The switch is most likely broken.  Mine works if I hold the cruise
button but otherwise it's off, just like yours.  I haven't looked
closer but it's probably only a matter of replacing the swtich!

When replacing the switch, how much of the steering wheel do you have to
take apart?  Does it have to come off?  Did that fix your problem?
Jim Mc Donald - 13 Mar 2006 00:34 GMT
To replace will need to remove the air bag module, per repair manual.  Need
#30 TORX bit.
Have to remove cover from steering column then from behind the wheel remove
mounting screws for the air bag.
Have to disable the air bag first. Have to disconnect the neg ground from
the battery.  For anti theft radios disable the lock out feature.

Handle the AIR Bag module carefully keep away from face.
