1998 Olds Intrigue...Thermostat Question...Help!

Engine is overheating, Fans are working, coolant is rust red. I
believe the thermostat is defective because I ran the heater on high
to help cool the engine & no hot air!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ensure that the solution is at the specified temperature.
