Passenger window loose, I think?

Tried to raise the passenger window on my 2-dr Alero, but it still had
a gap at the front.  Very annoying whistle until I got back to town!

Seems the window has "rotated" in it's housing.  Is it supposed to
float free inside the door?  Didn't seem to be attached to anything, I
muscled it back so it's pretty well closed, but I assume the same thing
could happen if I open it again.

Is there a track the window rides in?  That's probably an easy repair.
Or is something broken inside?  That's probably not so easy.

Thanks, all....

If your machine is equipped with power windows my suspicions are that the
drive cable for the motor driven regulator may have broken.  That happened
to my daughter's 2000 Alero coupe.  Fixing it would be a bit of a chore but
doable.

The window does ride in a track.  It also uses guides
that keep the window on the track.

So it could be the guides needing to be replaced.  Or
it could even be the tracks that need to be replaced.

You might be able to do this repair yourself, Or you
could take it to a auto glass company.  They would
be cheaper that the dealership.  They charged me
$80, but charge extra if they have to use parts.  They
told me eventually i will need to get my tracks replaced one day.  That
was in my case.

Hope this helps!

My 01 was recently repaired under warranty. There is a plastic tab epoxied
to the glass bottom and the door actuator pulley assembly connects to it.
My dealer epoxied new window mounts and changed the actuator. Again, it was
covered under warranty but as I recall, the invoice was a few hundred bucks.
If you need a new actuator, I've seen them cheap on EBAy, search " ALero
Window".
My situation sounds very similar to your, goes up most of the way but not
quite all the way.

Good Luck,
Chris

Hmm...window doesn't work at all now.  At least it is up, but it still
whistles a little.  Looks like a trip to the repairman.....

Thanks, all!

Thanks for all your replies, thought I'd post the results, in case
someone else comes Googling for this:

Apparently there is a regulator in the door, I assume it keeps the
front & back of the window moving at the same speed.  This regulator
had to be replaced.  Over $300 for a new one, my body shop guy got an
aftermarket one for $150, $55.20 labor.

So, your estimates weren't too far off!

Thanks again!
