1974 Olds cutlas 350

I recently purchased a 74 olds cutlass with a 350 and my question is
which weight of oil should i run and should I go with the high mileage.
It will be my everyday car while I put some work into it. I just had
the head gaskets replaced and a new water pump put in.

I ran 10W40 in both my 73's year round without any problems - even in harsh
WI winters...

HELP. I drove the car to work this morning then when I got ready to go
home I had a hard time starting it then when it started there is now a
very loud constant knocking sound coming from the middle drivers side
of the engine and I think it might be a thrown rod. Please tell me I'm
wrong
