I've checked the codes on my 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, to see if I
could find anything wrong with the Transmission, or Timing, because the
car's a little sluggish, and there is a fair amount of spark knock.
Here are the codes.
12-- Diagnostic Mode; No Distributor Signal to Electric Control Module;
System PASS.
25-- Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) Sensor or Circuit voltage low or
vacuum switching valve problem or ATS sensor fault.
42-- Electronic Spark Timing (EST) circuit fault or fuel cutoff relay
circuit fault or Direct Ignition System (DIS) fault.
What do these mean, and What should I do to fix them? Should I erase
the codes, and then see if any come back?
Thanks

check plugs if good move on to wires make sure there not touching or too
close together or runing paralel.what you can do after its run for a
litlle feel the wires if you feel one differant than the others then one
cylinder might not be firing.
if you feel one too hot then your getting cross fire this is where the
spark jumps onto another wire.if all good turn your distributer a little
left or right mark the position before you start .timing maybe off a
little ,if its running a little hot timing will cool it down (.i have an
87 cutless supreme 4 sale v-8 automatic) ther are all kinds of little
things to check like the basics first oils and fluids and such ,carb or
injection clearing the code is good and than if it comes back check out
the code,.Also check for vacuum leaking a quick one would be to spray a
clear paint around areas and if you here it smooh out or change engine
sound theres a leak and the paint will probably seal it up.Any question
