My external temp display is often 30-50 degrees low.  Fortunately this does
not seem to impact the actual function of the A/C controls, but it is
annoying.  Does anyone know where the sensor is located? Do you think it is
dirty and could be cleaned?  Not sure how much longer I will keep the car,
but it does only have 40K on it and I still really like it. Any suggestions
welcome.

sounds like the sensor itself id shorted out. may want to replace it.
