another problem with my 1990 calais, No heat so i just replaced the
thermostat and i still have no heat. However when i turn on the heater
or defroster, the air blows ice cold and the air conditioner lines and
compressor get very cold. Why would the A/C come on when i turn on the
heat?!? Winter is coming and i have no driver door window and no heat.
Can anyone tell me why my heater is being retarted??

Sounds like the control unit has gone south on you.  I would unplug
compressor electrical connection and attempt different positions of the
switch to see if the slider is bad...
