I have a 2000 Intrigue that has stalled a few times now when I come up to a
stop sign. Yesterday it stalled at a stop sign and would start again, but
stall again when i would put it in gear. After a few trys it went and I got
it home to read the codes and I had this:
P0101
MAF or VAF
A
CKT Range/Perf
No DTC pending codes
I believe the car is running a bit rich because you can smell unburnt gas in
the exhaust, especially at startup. Once it is warmed up this usually
pretty much goes away. It has had this symtom long before I have had any
problems or codes though.
Would this code usually cause stalling? A web site I found said the car is
usually drivable with this code. The guy at Advance Auto suggested cleaning
the MAF with compressed air. The car runs fine now and I have no pending
codes but I would rather replace the MAF then save a few bucks and possibly
get left stranded. Another thing that it could be is an intake vacuum leak.
I do not use a K&N air filter so filter oil isn't the issue. I'm not sure
where to start. Is there any better way to clean the MAF becides compressed
air? Anybody have an Intrigue with this problem that might have some ideas?

Not sure about cleaning it, but I know you can run with the harness
unplugged (not that you should do it for long). I did this before
replacing the (expensive) MAF sensor on my '99.
The computer must default to some safety values, but the car ran fine.
Easy to replace, don't pay someone to do it.
