Hi
Just got the above car.
After "testing out" the traction control a few times, now the little
light on the dash stays on saying the traction control is off.
According to the manual, that means something is wrong with the
system.  From what I've read, "the system" is mostly tied into the ABS
system, as far as wheel sensors and that.  Is there another component
that I should check that may go bad frequently?  And where is it
located in the car?  I know there is some sort of electric pump
somewhere that applies the pressure to the brakes when wheels
slip....just wondering if thats all there is?  Thanks...

I have same trouble with my 95 Royalle.  TC no work, light on, ABS fine. My
mech couldn't find trouble searching codes on handheld, so off to the
dealer.  Their estimate was $800 for ABS comp, so that means no TC for this
old car (unless ABS fails, then may fix).

My '93 LSS was doing the same thing. I needed to replace the Pressure
Modulator Valve - a well known problem for Teves Mark IV systems of that
vintage. Apparently, the electronics in the valve eventually fail, usually
do to water infiltration through the housing seal.

I don't know if your vehicle has the same unit in it, but that could be the
cause. It's located below and to the front of the master cylinder. The brake
lines leave the master cylinder and go to the PMV, then another line goes to
each wheel.

Same problem on my 95 LSS.  My Olds dealer told me that the T/C was actually
ON, which is the default position when the valve fails.  Replacing the valve
would cost around $900.
