My '86 Custom Cruiser (Eighty Eight) steering wheel is movin funnily from
side to side from (approx) where the tilt lever is. It has no effect on
driving but It feels weird and I could use some assistance how to tighten
the tilt joint. i.e. how remove the steering wheel and other parts
without
destroying it and accessing that area, need to also replace the string to
the gearshaft. Any help or pics appreciated.

I have repaired this problem many times, your problem is loose bolts on the
knuckle inside your tilt column, there  is a fairly easy way to fix or
lessen the loose condition, first off to fix this correctly the steering
wheel needs to be removed then disasemble the tilt unit, this is beyond
most diy'ers, but you can pull the steering wheel and tighten three of the
four loose bolts, the fourth bolt is in a location that you cannot get to
without total disasembly.this usually is a acceptable tradeoff since you
cas spend $200-$300 having a shop do these repairs and some will still do
the latter shortcut repair. hope this is of some help to you,ken

I couldnt get to the part where I was supposed to get in to the part where
I was supposed to remove the tilt part due to wiring  and lack of skill.
There were no bolts to loosen after the first plastic kolumn.?

Sorry did not thank in the first time so, Thank you.
Here in finland the repair dude told it takes approx. 4 hrs. to fix the
thing and his rate is the sheapest here. 35? /hour. so it it is
approx.same as you told. What about the gear shaft string? Can  it be
replaced at the same time?
