Anyone know how much money and trouble it'll be to re-build the steering
column on my 1978 Ninety-Eight?
Some loser stole it and broke open the steering column to start it. I
suppose there's a name for the technique, but pretty simple to do with a
big screwdriver. I can use a screwdriver too, but it'd be nice to get it
right. The key switch is frozen and the tranny is hard to get to "D" and
won't go past there.
Found it near a trailer park. (Go figure!) Still in good shape otherwise
with all my belongings still in it. Weird. Thought it'd be stripped and
smell of cigarettes and vomit.

I did it on my 81 Cutlass. You'll have to remove the steering wheel and
most of the upper column. I went to a wrecker and found a replacement
plastic upper column as well as the little plastic cam gear and spring
that were damaged on my car. Oh one other note. Besides a steering wheel
puller, you will need another tool (not sure what it's called) to press
down on the steering shaft lock ring so you can remove the C clip. Sorry I
can't give you complete instructions here.
