I have a olds toronado trofeo which has 215k miles. It runs well, however
sometimes it will start but not run. This happens after driving for awhile
and then stopping and trying to restart in less than 30 minutes. Any help
will be greatly apprciated since the mechanics have had no luck.

Sounds like your cam sensor is gone.
Needs to be replaced.
Not very expensive about $30.

We replaced that along with the mass air sensor, the points, the pcv valve,
and the crank shaft positionning sensor, the fuel pump and
strainer....there is something else which I have forgotten and I don't
have my notes, thanks for the input.

I own a 92 Toronado Trofeo (96K miles) that seems to be experiencing the
same problem as yours.  It will start and run fine, but then just die --
no engine power, no radio, no power steering, no assisted brakes (that's
pretty scary!), nothing.  If I leave it for about 5 or 10 minutes, it
starts again just fine.  It *seems* to be related to times when I've been
pushing it harder than usual -- up or down hills, accelerating hard on a
freeway, etc.

Did you find the solution for your car?  Can anyone offer advice?

Many thanks,

A common cause for this is the ignition module. One thing to mention, if a
cam position sensor fails on a VIN C or newer 3800, the car will start and
run, but the SES light will be illuminated. The car will run just fine, but
sequential fueling will not be enabled.
