I have a '00 alero 3.4 ltr. that was leaking trans fluid so i tightened up
the pan bolts and the leak had stop, but i have no idea how much fluid i
lost i figure about a quart, anyway there is no dip stick to check and the
filler cap is about 3 inches under a exhaust pipe,

my question is

1, how can i find out how much fluid is in in the transmission?

and 2
is there a certain fluid i have to buy?

I do not have much knowledge of these new cars, i am used to car before
they got complicated

thankyou

1.  There's a plug in the right axle housing you must remove.  You're
supposed to fill it until the fluid runs out of the hole when idling in
park.  (Some engineer's brilliant idea, I'm sure.)

2.  Use Dexron III.

As an Alero owner, I agree.   If the propeller headed engineers decided to
leave off the dipstick, they should have welded the pan on while they were
at it.<g>    I guess with a tranny rated at 205 ft. lb. mated to a V6 rated
at 200 ft. lb, the idea is you change the fluid and the entire trans at the
same time.   What is it with GM historically putting -almost- enough
automatic tranny behind their engines?   Do a few extra clutches and steels
in each pack really cost that much?

End of rant.
