Yes and it does. What ever allows the thing to run after the engine
stops and the ign is off is atleast part of the problem.
Have you pulled the part and had it tested yet?

No. Hadn't thought of that I guess because the engine seems to run OK.
Starts good, no stumbling on acc., runs smooth at road speed, shut off
cleanly. I have a shop manual coming and I was going to wait until I had
the wiring diagram to see what feeds whatever the thing is called. (maybe
idle air solenoid ?) It may have its power straight from the ECM which
will mean a trip to the junk yard for a used one. I priced one: $35. I
was hoping someone had the same or similar problem and could steer me in
the right direction before I start guessing parts. The fact that the
thing clicks with a regular rhythem pattern is strange too. It's like an
R/C charging and discharging.

How about pulling the part and filing it (in the garbage), get a new
part and see what happens. It's not too expensive, is it??? -PapaRick

I got the GM shop manual for the car and found the idle air controler that
was running with the switch off is controled by the ECM. I went to the
junk yard and got a ECM for $30, installed it and wverything is find so
far. The factory shop manual is large and has a lot of information. It
is the place to start for trouble shooting problems.
