My 81 Olds speedometer is noisy when cold and fluctuates between 60 and 80 Mph. I have lubricated the short cable between the Speedometer and the cruise connection. This did not solve the problem. I suspect the speedometer head is worn out. Could there be another problem? Octo Possibly the speedo gear in tranny. Had the same problem with my 82 delta. Replaced gear for about $6.00 new from gm.Remove cable at trans.,loosen lock down cover and remove to inspect gear. It's plastic,so it could be worn and slipping on shaft. Good luck.
