My 98 olds Intrigue w/3800 V6 seems to run fine till I climb a hill or pass
on the highway really pressing on the gas. The car looses power as it seems
to cut out or miss fire under this kind of strain. ease up on the gas and
it smooths out again.replaced the wires and a mechanic said it was the
coil pack and replaced it .Well the problem is still here and would like
any advise available. Thanks

How about your spark plugs?

I would think that it is your plugs since it is misfiring.
If not, I had a similiar problem with my 96 Monte and I had to have my 02
sensors replaced and the mass air flow sensor.
Quite expensive...

I have a '95 Buick LeSabre with the same engine. I encountered the same
thing you are having trouble with. I had a tuneup, spark plug wiring, and
still had the same problem. This car has 95,000 miles on it. A mechanic
noticed the transmission fluid was very dirty. The fluid and filter was
changed. Afterwards I noticed the misfiring(or whatever it is)was gone.
Hope this helps!

My 1998 Olds "88" did the same thing. Ended up having the transmission
rebuilt because it was slippping. And there was a miss in #4 cylinder, and
one of the coils was replaced.

I ended up having a coil replaced on #4 cylinder to get rid of miss.

Just out of curiosity did you see any physical signs of distress on the
old coil? How did you determine that it was failed?
