2 or 4 doors doesn't matter; 4-cylinder engine Aleros should not be used for towing.
Regardless of hitch class (never use a rental-type 'bumper' hitch on an Alero), GM's spec for maximum towable trailer weight by the Alero is 1000 lbs.
Maximum tongue weight is the LESSER amount of
a) 200 lbs (Class I hitch)
b) 300 lbs (Class II hitch), or
c) the difference between actual vehicle weight (including intended cargo, occupants, and full fuel tank) and the "GVWR" shown on the sticker above the latch opening on the driver's door.
I would also make sure it's less than the difference between the actual rear wheels weight (with cargo, etc.) and the GAWR RR weight given on the stickers, but the manuals just say to use GVWR.
You can usually find actual vehicle weights using the drive-on scales at a scrap yard or grain elevator, btw.

I have a 4 door alero...3.4 175hp. I have noticed no difference with the 4
cyl and the 6 cyl in the specs. How can that be? both are 1000lbs? .
If anyone knows different or has experience towing with an alero 6cyl please
let me know.
