I have a 2001 alero. The a/c does not seem to be working properly as I have
had to get it fixed twice now and it needs to be fixed again. It is not
working on lower speeds. I am wondering if there is some kind of defective
part that oldsmobile has put out a notice about. After this most recent
repair gets completed, I will have fixed the a/c problem for the third time
in a year.

If you are referring to the fan not blowing on the lower speeds the problem
would be the resistor pack under the passenger side dash.  This seems to be
a common problem with Alero's (I had it with my 00).  You can type in "alero
resistor pack" under http://groups.google.com/  and follow the info there.
I had mine replaced under warranty but I believe someone replaced their own
and gave a description of what was involved.

Here is a link and a part number to get the part at a cheaper price than the
dealer.

When I have taken my vehicle to GM dealers, they all tell me this is not
covered under warranty. Both times, I have had to pay out of pocket to get
it fixed since the dealers won't fix it under warranty.
