The ignition key on my 2000 oldsmobile Alero won't turn.  I have tried
wiggling it and spraying WD-40 in it, wiggling the gear shifter
(automaic trnansmission) stepping on the brake, but nothing I try
allows the key to turn.  Anyone have this problem and what was the
fix?  Is it the lock cylinder that went bad or something behind that ?
Can I get the lock cylinder out without dismantling the dashbord ?
Any help would be appreciated.  I have replaced lock cylinders twice
before and it wasn't pretty either time.  Any help ?

Unfortunately it does sound like a bad lock cylinder. The same thing
happened on my 2000 Intrigue, and I had to have a new lock cylinder
installed -- 400 bucks, plus the towing charge.

Make sure the car is in Park.
